Martin Little, the main reporter for the Allanwater News, kindly provided the following advice for Cathedral organisations wishing to provide the Allanwater News with material.
These should be at least 1mb in size (any less will not reproduce) and no bigger than 8mb (as any bigger may not be able to be sent by e-mail). These should be in jpg format.
News material can be sent to the editor of the Allanwater News using the e-mail address email@example.com, but as this receives a huge amount of mail every day it would be preferable to send to a named individual; Martin Little’s e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org, Tel: 01259 726502.
The newspaper appreciates about a month’s notice of stories which might wish to have a reporter attend so that they can plan. Generally the newspaper will feature a story but may also repeat a reminder of an upcoming event in “nibs” – short 50-70 words, which can be placed in a column.
What to write
Articles tend to be about 200-250 words long. Facts are most important e.g. dates, times, what event is, how many people attended, how much money was raised and for what purpose. Quotes are particularly welcome. The reporters will re-write the facts you provide in the newspaper style.
You can send an e-mail with the story in the body of the e-mail or as an attachment. They can open Word, Works, or pdf formats. Do not send Powerpoint or Publisher files.
