Salt is amazing! It can make a big difference from flavouring and preserving food to melting ice and acting as an antiseptic.

Read the Bible passage below to see what Jesus said about Christians being the salt of the earth. Jesus wants us to behave in a way that's  amazing and make a big difference in the world just like the salt.

Matthew 5:13-14

You Are Like Salt and Light

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its salty taste, it cannot be made salty again. It is good for nothing. It must be thrown out for people to walk on.

14 “You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden.

Activity: Ice and salt sculpture

1. Freeze a container of water

2. Turn it out into a dish and sprinkle some salt over the ice.

3. Watch the ice melting and notice the difference between where you sprinkled a little and where you sprinkled a lot.

4. Add some  food colouring  or watercolours to a little water.

5. Spoon the colours over the ice and watch  colours run down the ravines, cracks and crevices made in the ice by the salt.

6. Turn it upside down and look at it from underneath.

7. Hold it up to the light and let the light shine through it.

8. You can start all over again by running it under the tap.

9. Have fun!
